Hiking The Natural Park Of The Ampezzo Dolomites

Northeast of Venice and just northwest of Cortina in the Natural Park Of The Ampezzo Dolomites, the Alta Via #1 route is a 75 mile trek requiring at

least 8 days. This incredibly scenic route makes use of bolted steel ladders and cables to traverse the limestone Dolimites past lush green valleys. The hiking route typically starts in the north at Lago do Braies and heads south to Belluno while varying in elevation from 4,800 feet to 8,000 feet.

And, besides the incredible views of the gray limestone Dolimite towers, the are fifteen wonderful refugios along the way to provide lodging and fantastic food. Luckily, camping is prohibitted so you don't even have to feel guilty about imbibing in these pleasures along the way.
