Just east of Munising in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, the North Country Trail (a.k.a Lakeshore Trail) is an ideal hiking route running the 250 feet sandstone ridges and beachs along Lake Superior 50 miles to Grand Marais. The Munising trailhead is located on CR58 just east of the Munising Falls Interpretive Center. The Grand Marais trailhead is located near the ranger station on CR58.

One of the nicest stretches is the 10 mile chapel loop near the 90 Chapel Falls and colorful Chapel Rock. The trailhead is located north of Melstrand at the end of Chapel Road.

Overall, North Country Trail is the 4th most popular hiking trail of all 32 hikes in Michigan. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby North Country Trail including Grand Island National Recreation Area, Pine Marten Run, Grand Island Trail/Bay de Noc, Oakwood Trail and Brunos Run Trail.
