Northwest of Windermere in the Lake District National Park, the Elterwater area has plenty of rocky hiking trails with awesome vistas of the jagged Langdale Pikes and barren rolling landscape. Check out forest trails out of Little Langdale and heading up Great Langdale.

To reach Elterwater from Ambleside, head west for 3 miles to Skelwith Bridge. Then continue north on a minor road to the Elterwater National Trust car park. A 14 mile loop can be formed connecting bridleways, trails and roads.

Overall, Elterwater National Trust is the 8th most popular hiking trail of all 16 hikes in UK. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Elterwater National Trust including Ambleside Trails, Grizedale Park Trails and Coniston Water.
