Hiking The West Fork Trail

South of Elkins at Durbin in the Monongahela National Forest, the 23 mile West Fork Trail is a rail-trail open to hiking along the West Fork of the Greenbrier River. This is a remote backcountry experience.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Elkins, follow US250 south to Durbin. Park at the train depot. The trail heads north and paralels FS44.

Overall, West Fork Trail is the 4th most popular hiking trail of all 15 hikes in West Virginia. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby West Fork Trail including North Fork Mountain Trail and Dolly Sods Wilderness Area.
