Near Grantsville, the Savage River Complex is 55,000 acres of state lands combining parks and forests. There are countless miles of hiking trails and doubletracks.

The 11 mile Meadow Mountain Trail System travels along the crest of Meadow Mountain parallel to New Germany Road with some rocky sections.

Overall, Meadow Mountain Trail System is the 5th most popular hiking trail of all 20 hikes in Maryland.
