Hiking The Killpecker Trail

Northwest of Fort Collins in the Poudre Canyon area, the Killpecker Trail (#956) is a 4.2 mile one-way route climbing from 9,180 feet to 10,920 feet. The trail ascends from Deadman Road to the Bald Mountain Jeep Trail at Middle Bald Mountain. It is easy to lose the trail in the logged-over area, follow the Forest Service markers.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Fort Collins, follow US287 north for 21 miles into Livermore. Turn left onto Redfeather Lakes Road heading west for 31 miles. The trailhead is on the southside of the road across from NFS North Fork Poudre Campground.

Overall, Killpecker Trail is the 31st most popular hiking trail of all 72 hikes in Colorado. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Killpecker Trail including Flowers Trail, Mount Margaret Trail, North Lone Pine Trail, Roaring Creek Trail, Youngs Gulch #837 and Crosier Mountain #931Horsetooth Mountain Park.
