Near Somers and Stafford in the 6,126 acre Shenipsit State Forest, the 15 mile Soapstone Mountain route (1000 feet vertical) out-and-back to the Soapstone summit is shady, rolling and, best of all, dry. Overall, there are about 26 miles of trails in the SSF.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Hartford, follow US84 to Exit 64. Head north on SR83. In Somers, turn right onto SR190 for 1 mile. Turn right onto Gulf Street and look for entrance on right.

Overall, Soapstone Mountain is the 9th most popular hiking trail of all 16 hikes in Connecticut.
