Hiking The Island Lake Recreation Area

The 20th most popular hiking trail in Michigan.

Near Brighton, the 4,000 acre Island Lake State Park has two loops of 6 and 9 miles each. The East Loop circles the Huron River, is over five miles long and travels through woodlands, fields, and crosses Mann Creek. The West Loop, easier of the two, is over nine miles long and meanders through fields, woodlands, and wetlands.

To reach the hiking trailhead from US96, exit at Kennsington Road near Brighton which is about 3 miles east of US23. Follow Kennsington Road south for 0.5 miles.

Overall, Island Lake Recreation Area is the 20th most popular hiking trail of all 32 hikes in Michigan.
