Hiking The Lower Loop Trail System

Starting from the northwest side of Crested Butte, the Lower Loop Trail is one of the easier hiking routes around town.

To reach the main trailhead parking area from SR135, head west on Elk Avenue to First Street. Turn right heading north on First Street for 4 blocks to Butte Avenue. Turn left heading west on Butte Avenue. Butte Avenue eventually turns to the dirt and becomes Peanut Lake Road. The parking area is just ahead on the left.

Overall, Lower Loop Trail System is the 24th most popular hiking trail of all 72 hikes in Colorado. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Lower Loop Trail System including Deer Creek, Green Lake Trail, Snodgrass Trail, East / West Maroon Trail Loop, Oh Be Joyful - Peeler Lakes and Yule Pass TrailCopper Lake Trail.
