Jim Edgar Panther Creek Wildlife Area Hiking

Northwest of Springfield near Chandlerville, the 10,000 acre Jim Edgar Panther Creek Wildlife Area has the 26 mile long Governers Trail for hiking.

The wildlife area is located in Cass County 25 miles northwest of Springfield off State Illinois Route 125, 10 miles northeast of Virginia, 10 miles west of Petersburg and New Salem State Historic Site, and 10 miles northwest of Ashland.

Access JEPC from Interstate 72 by taking the Ashland/Jim Edgar Panther Creek exit at State Route 123 and traveling north through Ashland to State Route 125 then west to Newmansville Road.

Travelers on Interstate 55 have easy access to it by taking the Sherman exit and traveling west on 97. The main entrance is on its eastern perimeter at the junction of County Highway 11 and Newmansville Road. Other public roads offer additional entry points.

The Governers Trail parking area is located the northwest corner of JEPC on Questing Hills Road just off County Highway 2.
