Northwest of Stanhope, the 6900 acre Allamuchy Mountain State Park has 42 miles of trails open to hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing and horseback riding that crisscross forests and marshlands. These trails are split with 15 miles in the Allamuchy Natural Area and 25 miles of unmarked trails in the northern section of Allamuchy.

Allamuchy Mountain State Park is located three miles north of Hackettstown between Willow Grove/ Waterloo Road (Route 604) on the east, Route 517 on the west, and Cranberry Lake (Route 206) on the north.

Overall, Allamuchy Mountain State Park is the 9th most popular hiking trail of all 29 hikes in New Jersey.
