Hiking The Minnesota Valley State Trail

Southwest of Minneapolis in the Minnesota Valley State Park, the Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area has 35 miles of trails open to hiking along the Minnesota River.

For best access use the Lawerence trailhead at the MVSRA HQ, located southwest of Jordan off SR57.

There are two distinct districts to this state park. The northern district is Louisville Swamp runs from Shakopee to Thompson Ferry. The southern district is the Lawrence Unit which runs from St. Lawrence to Belle Plaine.

Overall, Minnesota Valley State Trail is the 10th most popular hiking trail of all 31 hikes in Minnesota. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Minnesota Valley State Trail including Parkers Ridge Trail and Gateway State Trail.
