Hiking The Potomac State Forest

Southeast of Oakland in Garrett County, the 8,000 acre Potomac-Garrett State Forest has miles of hiking trails and logging roads through dense oak, cherry and maple forests.

The 3.5 mile Lostland Run Trail passes scenic Cascade Falls on the way down to the North Branch Potomac River. There are lush rhododendrons and towering hemlocks. The trailhead is on Potomac Camp Road.

Overall, Potomac State Forest is the 9th most popular hiking trail of all 20 hikes in Maryland.
