Near Oakland in Garrett County, the 8,000 acre Potomac-Garrett State Forest has miles of hiking trails and logging roads through dense oak, cherry and maple forests.

The 9 mile Garrett Trail System starts in Herrington Manor State Park. On the trail map, the dashed red line indicates 5.5 mile Swallow Falls/Herrington Manor Trail (horseback riding not allowed, but hiking, x-country skiing & biking permitted). The blue dashed line indicates Snaggy Mountain Road multi-use trail. The solid red line indicates Garrett Trail (no ATVs).

Overall, Garrett Trail System is the 10th most popular hiking trail of all 20 hikes in Maryland.
