East of Clayton in the Sumter National Forest, the Willis Knob Horse Trail is a 15 mile loop which connects with the 12.5 mile Rocky Gap Horse Trail system in South Carolina. These are some of the most scenic trails in the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains and wind across deeply dissected ridges along with descending to the Chattooga River.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Walhalla (SC), head north on SR28 for 6 miles. Turn left heading west on Whetstone Road for 5 miles. At the 4-way stop, continue for another 1.5 miles. Near where the payment ends, the trailhead parking will be on the right.

Overall, Willis Knob Trail is the 17th most popular hiking trail of all 22 hikes in Georgia.
