Hiking The Horse Canyon Trail

Northwest of Elko and north of Winnemucca, the Horse Canyon Trail is an 8 mile round trip trek into the Santa Rosa / Paradise Peak Wilderness Area.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Winnemucca, head north on US95 for 38 miles. Park just beyond the Horse Canyon forest service sign. The trail starts 150 years inside the FS boundary fence on the southeast side of the creek.

Overall, Horse Canyon Trail is the 16th most popular hiking trail of all 20 hikes in Nevada. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Horse Canyon Trail including Ruby Crest Trail, Angel Lake / Grey Lake Trail and Gods Pocket Peak.
