North of Boston and west of Lynn, the 2,200 acre Lynn Woods Reservation is a local favorite desitination close to Boston. There are 30 miles of trails through pine forest along wetlands and ponds (including Walden Pond).
To reach the hiking trailhead from US1, use the Walnut Street Exit (Saugus). Head east on Walnut Street for 2 miles. Turn left on Pennybrook Road to the end.
Overall, Lynn Woods Reservation is the 33rd most popular hiking trail of all 36 hikes in Massachusetts. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Lynn Woods Reservation including F. Gilbert Hills State Forest, Myles Standish State Forest, Wompatuck State Park, Willowdale State Forest, Blue Hills Reservation, Bay Circuit and Breakheart Reservation.
