Hiking The Ballon Dome

East of San Fransisco and Merced near Oakhurst, the trek to Ballon Dome is a 9.5 mile round trip hike through pine and cedar forest along the San Joaquin River. Ballon Dome is a 3,000 feet glacial carved rock.

The trail starts from the Cassidy Trailhead which is off SR41 northeast of Oakhurst.

Overall, Ballon Dome is the 55th most popular hiking trail of all 88 hikes in California. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Ballon Dome including Bishop Pass/John Muir/ Piute Pass Trails, John Muir Trail, Tenaya Lake To Clouds Rest, Mount Dana Trail and Merced River Trail.
