Near Shepard Lake, the 4,300 acre Ringwood State Park has 38 miles of hiking on trails and old forest roads. About 22 miles are shared with bikers and horseback riders.

To reach the trailhead, follow US87 south and use exit 15A. Head north on SR17 and then west on SR72 (Sloatsburg Road). Continue past Ringwood Manor. Turn left on Morris Avenue toward Shepherd Lake. Turn in the park entrance. Use the parking area near the Skylands Manor House.

Overall, Ringwood State Park is the 12th most popular hiking trail of all 29 hikes in New Jersey.
