Hiking The Rim Trail

Northwest of Ithaca, the Taughannock Falls State Park has 7 miles of trails along and in the gorge formed by the Taughannock Creek. The Rim Trail is a 5 mile route encircling the gorge. The Gorge Trail is a 1 mile route through the gorge to Taughannock Falls (215 tall).

To reach the hiking trailhead from Ithaca, head north on SR89 for x miles into the state park. The parking areas are on either side of Taughannock Creek.

Overall, Rim Trail is the 43rd most popular hiking trail of all 49 hikes in New York. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Rim Trail including Finger Lakes Trail, Hammond Hill State Forest, Shindagin Hollow State Forest, Gorge Trail, Danby State Forest and Interloken Trail System.
