Hiking The Sugar Hill State Forest

The 39th most popular hiking trail in New York.

West of Ithaca and Watkins Glen in Schuyler County, the 9,000 acre Sugar Hill State Forest has 40 miles of trails shared by hikers, bikers and horseback riders. A portion of the Finger Lakes Trail also passes through the forest.

The best trailhead is on CR23 halfway between Watkins Glen and Tyrone near a rustic sign. If you can find it, theres also parking at the Sugar Hill Fire Tower.

Overall, Sugar Hill State Forest is the 39th most popular hiking trail of all 49 hikes in New York.
