Hiking The Norvin Green State Forest

The 20th most popular hiking trail in New Jersey.

Northwest of Neward near Ringwood in Passaic County, the 4,400 acre Norvin Green State Forest has 28 miles of hiking trails over rugged terrain through undistrubed forest. With hills ranging from 400 to 1,300 feet in elevation, Norvin Green provides the avid hiker with scenic vistas, including the New York skyline, Burnt Meadow Brook and Lake Sonoma.

To reach the trailhead, take SR287 to exit 57, follow Skyline Drive to Greenwood Lake Turnpike to West Brook Road to Snake Den Road. Follow signs to Weis Ecology Center. Parking is available at Weis Ecology Center or along Burnt Meadow Road and Glen Wild Road.

Note: the bugs can be brutal in the summer.

Overall, Norvin Green State Forest is the 20th most popular hiking trail of all 29 hikes in New Jersey.
