Hiking The Ramapo Mountain State Forest

The 14th most popular hiking trail in New Jersey.

Northwest of Newark near Ringwood in Bergen County, the 4,200 acre Ramapo Mountain State Forest has 26 miles of trails.

To reach the hiking trailhead, take Route 287 to exit 57, follow Skyline Drive to parking lot on the left. The upper parking area for Ramapo Mountain State Forest on the left side of the road at milepost 1.4, opposite the entrance to Camp Tamarack.

Overall, Ramapo Mountain State Forest is the 14th most popular hiking trail of all 29 hikes in New Jersey.
