Hiking The Los Burros Trail

The 40th most popular hiking trail in Arizona.

Northeast of Pinetop in the White Mountains, the Los Burros Loop (#631) is the premier hard-packed trail in the area. The trail winds 14 miles on old road and single track, through thick stands of pine and aspen forest. Its not too rocky. The route has moderate climbs with elevations ranging from 7800 feet to 8300. Keep an eye out for the side trip up to Lake Mountain Lookout (8501 ).

To reach the hiking trailhead from Pinetop, head east on SR260 to McNary and then north on Vernon Road (FS224) for 7.5 miles to the NFS Los Burros CG. The trail starts from the far end of the campground and joins with a power line.

Overall, Los Burros Trail is the 40th most popular hiking trail of all 49 hikes in Arizona.
