East of Montpelier, the 26,000 acre Groton State Forest has a vast network of hiking trails through rolling dense second growth forest. This is prime deer, black bear and moose habitat.
The Montpelier / Wells River Trail is a 14.5 mile multi-use trail along an old railroad grade.
