South of Walton in the western Catskills, the 7,200 acre Bear Spring Mountain Wildlife Management Area has 24 miles of marked hiking trails rolling through forest and meadows. The scenic routes pass lakes and waterfalls.

To reach the hiking trailhead from the north on US88, use Exit 20. Head south on SR10 to Walton. Turn east on SR206 for 5.2 miles. Turn on East Trout Road and head to the campground (where the trailhead is located).
