Hiking The McCarthy Beach State Park

Northwest of Duluth and Virginia, the McCarthy Beach State Park has 9 miles of trails through deeply wooded forest. The trails follow rolling ridge lines on moraines between lakes and ponds.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Virigina, head west on US169 toward Hibbing. Just past Chisholm, turn north on CR5 for 15 miles to the park entrance.

Overall, McCarthy Beach State Park is the 25th most popular hiking trail of all 31 hikes in Minnesota. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby McCarthy Beach State Park including Willard Munger State Trail, Willard Munger State Trail, St Croix State Forest and Fond Du Lac State Forest.
