Hiking The Pine Valley / Carmel River Trail

The 58th most popular hiking trail in California.

South of Carmel Valley and east of Big Sur in the Los Padres National Forest, the Pine Valley is a rugged region in the 216,000 acre Ventana Wilderness Area. There is a nice loop through the Pine Valley starting from China Camp that combines the Pine Ridge Trail, Carmel River Trail and the Miller Canyon Trail.

To reach the China Camp hiking trailhead from Carmel Valley, head south on East Carmel Valley Road (CR G-16) for 12 miles. Turn right on Cachagua Road and veer left towards Tassajara Road. Follow Tassajara Road south for 8 miles to China Camp.

Overall, Pine Valley / Carmel River Trail is the 58th most popular hiking trail of all 88 hikes in California.
