Hiking The Border Route Trail

The 16th most popular hiking trail in Minnesota.

Northeast of Ely and north of Grand Marias in the Superior National Forest, the Border Route Trail is a 75 mile route through dense forest filled with moose and wolves. The hiking route is broken into three sections. The east trailhead is located at Partridge Falls Road outside of Grand Portage. The west trailhead is off Gunflint Trail Road (CR12).

Overall, Border Route Trail is the 16th most popular hiking trail of all 31 hikes in Minnesota. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Border Route Trail including Arrowhead State Trail, Secret / Blackstone Trail System, Baker Lake / Johnson Lake Loop, Wheeler Peak Trail, Hendrys Creek / Mount Moriah Trail and Big Aspen TrailLaurentian Trail.
