Hiking The Agassiz Recreation Trails

Near Fertile, the Agassiz Recreation Trail is a 32 mile multiple use trail along an old railroad grade generally parallel to SR32. The southern end of the trail is in Ulen and the northern end is in Fertile. The route passes through the towns of Syre, Twin Valley and Gary. It runs through grass praires and mixed forests, with an occasional bear or moose.

In the summer, the Agassiz Recreation Trail is shared by hikers, bikers, horseback riders and ATV riders. In the winter, the trail is shared by cross-country skiers and snowmobiliers.

The parking area in Fertile is located at the intersection of the Sand Hill River and SR 32, just south of the town of Fertile.

Overall, Agassiz Recreation Trails is the 28th most popular hiking trail of all 31 hikes in Minnesota.
