Hiking The Prison Hill Recreation Area

The 20th most popular hiking trail in Nevada.

Southeast Carson City, the 2,450 acre Prison Hill Recreation Area has trails open to hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and ATV riding. There are three trailhead parking areas.

The northern end trailhead is located off East Fifth Street near River Road. It provides access to non-motorized trails.

The main parking area is located on the eastern end of Koontz Lane. It provides access to a loop trail at the top of Prison Hill with a nice vista.

The trailhead at the southern end provides access to motorized-use routes. These routes include a small loop trail system and several sandy washes.

Overall, Prison Hill Recreation Area is the 20th most popular hiking trail of all 20 hikes in Nevada.
