Northeast of Houston, the 4,900 acre Lake Houston State Park has 12 miles of trails.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Houston, head north on US59 to the New Caney exit. Proceed east on FM1485 for 2 miles. Turn south on Baptist Encampment Road for 1.5 miles.

Overall, Lake Houston State Park is the 27th most popular hiking trail of all 32 hikes in Texas. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Lake Houston State Park including Lone Star Trail, Brazos Bend State Park, Lake Bryan Park, Double Lake Trail, Trail Between The Lakes and Huntsville State ParkLake Somerville State Park.
