North of Chilhowee, the Cooper Road Trail is a 10.5 mile route open to hiking. Cooper Road Trail is part of a 19 mile loop including Rabbit Creek Trail.

To reach the Abrams Creek Campground trailhead from Chilhowee, head north on Happy Valley Road for 7 miles to the campground.

Overall, Cooper Road Trail is the 19th most popular hiking trail of all 24 hikes in Tennessee. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Cooper Road Trail including Wolf Ridge Trail, Balsam Mountain Trail, Lakeshore Trail, Deep Creek Trail, Foothills Parkway and Welch Ridge Trail.
