North of Bryson City, the Welch Ridge Trail is a 78 mile route open to hiking. Welch Ridge Trail is part of a 24 mile loop including Bear Creek Trail and Jones Creek Trail. There are 50 more miles of trails in the area.

To reach the trailhead from Bryson City, head north on SR 1364/New Fontana Rd (Lakeview Dr.) Travel 8.5 miles to the trailhead.
