Southeast of Nevada City in the Tahoe National Forest, the Grouse Ridge Trail is an 8 mile hiking route.

To reach the southern Eagle Lakes trailhead from US80, use the Eagle Lakes Exit. Proceed north past NFS Indian Springs Campground. Continue as far as the vehicle will go. A 4WD is required to reach the Eagle Lakes parking area.

From Eagle Lakes, the trail heads north to Sawmill Lake. Note: then northern end of the trail crosses the spillway dam at Sawmill Lake which may be impassible due to high water in Canyon Creek.

Overall, Grouse Ridge Trail is the 70th most popular hiking trail of all 88 hikes in California. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Grouse Ridge Trail including South Yuba River Trail and Pioneer Trail.
