Northwest of Yampa, the West Fish Creek Trail #1098 is an 8 mile route open to hiking. This route is shared by hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, dirt bikers and ATVs (up to 44 inches wide).

To reach the trailhead from Yampa, head north on CR17 for 5 miles. Turn left heading west on CR132 for 3.4 miles. Veer west on FS16 for 8.2 miles. Turn right heading north on FS951 to the trailhead parking.

The trail follows an old logging road. The initial section is fairly level as it passes through a spruce-fir forest. Then the route winds through open parks and stands of aspen.

Overall, West Fish Creek Trail is the 62nd most popular hiking trail of all 72 hikes in Colorado.
