Northwest of Hilo on the Big Island, the Mauna Kea Humu Ula Trail is a steep 6 mile climb up the old volcano. The hiking route starts at the Mauna Kea Visitor Center around 8,000 feet and climbs to near the summit at over 13,000 feet.
Overall, Mauna Kea Humu Ula Trail is the 37th most popular hiking trail of all 45 hikes in Hawaii.
