Near Prescott, the Thumb Butte area has trails open to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The high point of the trail network is 7000 feet with a view that overlooks Cooper Basin.

To reach the Thumb Butte area from downtown Prescott, travel west on Gurley Street, which becomes Thumb Butte Road. Continue on to Thumb Butte Picnic Area (3 miles from courthouse).

Overall, Thumb Butte is the 47th most popular hiking trail of all 49 hikes in Arizona. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Thumb Butte including Groom Creek Trail / Spruce Mountain, Granite Mountain / Granite Basin and Seven Mile Gulch Trail.
