From Derry to Fremont, the Rockingham Recreation Trail is a 18 multi-purpose hiking route. The hiking route is in the shape of a V and has three trailheads. The western portions of this trail system are being paved. On paved sections, motorized use is limited to winter months when there is complete snow cover. As of September 2006, the paved sections include Windham Depot to SR111 near Salem, and Windham Depot to SR28 in Derry.
The western terminus parking area is at Windham Depot, which is southwest of Derry, at the intersection of SR28 and Depot Road.
The eastern terminus parking area is south of Fremont on SR107.
The southern terminus parking area is near Salem off SR111.
Overall, Rockingham Recreation Trail is the 16th most popular hiking trail of all 17 hikes in New Hampshire.
