Hiking The Johnson Creek

The 16th most popular hiking trail in Illinois.

North of Murphysboro in the Shawnee National Forest, the Johnson Creek Recreation Area has a trail system open to hiking.

To reach the Johnson Creek Recreation Area from Murphysboro, head west on SR149 for 6.9 miles to US3. Head north on SR3 for 4.5 miles to SR151. Turn right heading north on SR151 for 4.3 miles. The trailhead is after the first swimming area and campground on your left.

Overall, Johnson Creek is the 16th most popular hiking trail of all 17 hikes in Illinois.
