Curecanti National Recreation Area Hiking

West of Gunnison and east of Montrose, the Curecanti National Recreation Area has several hiking trails worth exploring.

Neversink (off Hwy 50, 5 miles west of Gunnison)

Length: 4 miles round trip

Difficulty: Easy

Dillon Pinnacles (off Hwy 50, 6 miles west of Elk Creek Visitors Center)

Length: 4 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderate

Pine Creek (off Hwy 50, one mile west of junction with Hwy 92)

Length: 2 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderate

Mesa Creek (off Hwy 50, at Cimarron. Drive one mile to Morrow Point Dam parking area)

Length: 1.5 miles round trip

Difficulty: Easy

Curecanti Creek (turn off Hwy 50 onto Hwy 92, go 5.7 miles to Pioneer Point Overlook)

Length: 4 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderate (900 ft elevation change)

Hermits Rest (turn off Hwy 50 onto Hwy 92, go 17 miles)

Length: 6 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderately Strenuous (1800 ft elevation change)

Crystal Creek (turn off Hwy 50 onto Hwy 92, go 24 miles)

Length: 5 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderate

Directions:

Curecanti National Recreation Area is located approximately 200 miles southwest of Denver. U.S. Highway 50 runs the length of Curecanti between Montrose and Gunnison, Colorado. The recreation area is also accessed from CO Hwy 149 and CO Hwy 92.
