The Continental Divide Trail runs from Mexico northward to the Canadian border. A long hiking segment passes through New Mexico. The section in New Mexico can be conveniently divided into 6 sections.

The second section from the south passes through the Gila Wilderness area and also runs 22 miles through the Aldo Leopold Wilderness.
