South of Potosi and north of Lesterville, the 9,000 acre Bell Mountain Wilderness Area has 12 miles of trails open to hiking. A small stretch of the Ozark Trail also passes through Bell Mountain Wilderness.

To reach the trailhead from Potosi, head south on SR21 to SR32. Head west on SR32 for 7 miles to SR A. Follow SR A to FS2228. Turn on FS2228 for 2 miles to the trailhead.

Overall, Bell Mountain Wilderness is the 20th most popular hiking trail of all 21 hikes in Missouri. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Bell Mountain Wilderness including Ozark Trail - Taum Sauk Section, Berryman Trail, Kaintuck Hollow Trail, Whites Creek Trail, Big Piney Trail and Cole Creek TrailCedar Creek Trail.
