West of Srinagar in the Pir Panjal Range of Kashmir, the Gulmarg ski area has several scenic hiking trails in high altitude alpine terrain.

To get to Gulmarg Ski Area, the best bet is to fly into Srinagar, Kashmir, from New Delhi. Gulmarg is only a 1 hour drive from Srinagar (52km), but it may take up to 2 hours in the winter (or 3 hours depending upon army checkpoints). There are buses that make the run from Srinagar to Tangmarg, and then you will need to hire a taxi for the last 45 minutes up the hills to Gulmarg. All travel must be completed before sunset.

Overall, Gulmarg Ski Area is the 24th most popular hiking trail of all 42 hikes in India.
