Hiking The Hare Creek Trail

South of Carmel and Lucia, the Hare Creek Trail is a 4.2 mile route trip route with about 500 feet of climbing. The Hare Creek Trail starts from the entrance kiosk and proceeds east up Hare Canyon through redwood forest.

To reach the Hare Creek Trail at Limekiln State Park from San Luis Obispo, follow Highway 1 some 90 miles north to the signed turnoff for Limekiln State Park. The park is about 40 miles north of Hearst Castle, some 55 miles south of Carmel. The trailhead is located by walking through the campground to the signed trails.

Overall, Hare Creek Trail is the 77th most popular hiking trail of all 88 hikes in California. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Hare Creek Trail including Black Cone Trail, Pine Valley / Carmel River Trail and Pine Ridge / Sykes Hot Springs Trail.
