South of Salzburg and northwest of Lienz in Nationalpark Hohe Tauren, the Osttirol 360 Skyline Trail is a 318km loop along the perimeter of Nationalpark Hohe Tauren with 25,000m of climbing. The Osttirol 360 Skyline Trail was created in 2009 as the longest trekking path in the Alps. The route follows along the Lienzer Dolomites and the Karnischen Kamm past the famous Jagdhausalmen (the oldest refuges in Austria) in the Defereggen Valley. To lighten the load of the extreme trekkers, there are fourty five refuges and mountain huts offering East Tyrolean specialities. This route can be conveniently divided into 36 day stages.
Overall, Osttirol 360 Skyline Trail is the 15th most popular hiking trail of all 15 hikes in Austria.
