Hiking The Kinkaid Lake Trail

West of Murphysboro near Ava in the Shawnee National Forest, the Kinkaid Lake Trail is a 15 mile (one-way) hiking trail along the western shore of Kinkaid Lake. The trail is pbazled with white diamonds.

To reach the hiking trailhead from Murphysboro, head west on SR149 for 8 miles. Turn right on SR3 for 4.5 miles. Turn right on SR151 for 5 miles. Just before Johnson Creek Road, look for the trailhead parking area on the right (can be difficult to find).

Overall, Kinkaid Lake Trail is the 5th most popular hiking trail of all 17 hikes in Illinois. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby Kinkaid Lake Trail including River-To-River Trail - East, Garden Of The Gods, Cedar Lake Trails, Beaver Trail, River-To-River Trail - West and Johnson Creek.
