In the Flinders Range, the Mawson Trail runs a majority of the 800 km hiking route from Adelaide north to Hawker in the rugged Flinders Ranges. The dirt track will be eventually extended to the scenic Wilpena Pound gorge area. The MT is blazed with 1 m. high permapine posts at 1 km intervals and rolls through forests and countrysides.

Overall, Mawson Trail is the 3rd most popular hiking trail of all 16 hikes in Australia.
