Hiking The Pachaug State Forest

Southeast of Hartford near Mansfield in Voluntown, the 23,000 acre Pachaug State Forest is the states largest and has plenty of hikes. The Pachaug State Forest has two main areas; the Chapman Area and the Green Falls Area. The Chapman Area has the more popular trails.

To reach the trailhead, follow US395 to Exit 85. Head east on SR138. In Vountown, turn left onto SR49 for 0.5 miles to the entrance. Park at the end of the paved road.

Overall, Pachaug State Forest is the 3rd most popular hiking trail of all 16 hikes in Connecticut.
