Hiking The October State Forest

The 5th most popular hiking trail in Massachusetts.

Northeast of Lee in the Bershires, the 16,000 acre October State Forest has 30 miles of trails and logging roads in the Berkshires. A section of the Appalachian Trail passes through the forest.

To reach the hiking trailhead from the Mass Turnpike, use Exit 2. Head west on SR20 and turn right on Center Street in Lee. Follow the signs to the parking area.

Overall, October State Forest is the 5th most popular hiking trail of all 36 hikes in Massachusetts. Several of the better hiking trails are nearby October State Forest including Beartown State Forest, Chester-Blandford State Forest and Monroe State Forest.
